Donate Your Tennis Balls To Charity

Michael & Joan Heard (a retired minister & schoolteacher respectively) have been the UK Directors of CSSI http://www.cssi.org.uk/ since 1999. In 2009 they helped to register the charity in the UK–charity no 1127339.  Indian charity no–102/99/1V.

The charity supports 29 workers, has 2 tailoring centres, 2 schools, a clinic & several “self-help” ladies groups.  Furthermore the charity has built 28 wells to date in the very needy rural areas of CSSI work.

Michael and Joan visit the work annually entirely at their own expense.  No money is deducted from donations for their travel or expenses as all money collected is channelled into the charity.  The network of volunteers and donations provide knitted caps and tops for the hundreds of children in the West Bengal rural villages.  The gratitude from the villagers when receiving a cap, lolipop and this year a tennis ball was overwhelming.  These children had never even seen a tennis ball before. They have no toys.  Most cannot attend school as they help their parents as labourers on the fields. Life is hard.

The Heards and other trustees are grateful for the tennis balls, all the beautiful donated clothes etc, but they have one problem–getting them out to India. Limits on kgs on flights and sending parcels very expensive.
